Frequently Asked Questions during the run-up to the 2015 event

Do I have to be a member of the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles to take part?

No, anyone who has an interest in quilting, patchwork or sewing can be part of a team.

Do I have to bring my sewing machine to the event?

No, there will be Bernina sewing machines available for each team.  Own sewing machines are not permitted for Health and Safety regulations.

Do I have to bring any other equipment?

All rotary cutting equipment will be provided, as will an iron and ironing board for each team.  You may bring your own rotary cutting euipment but we cannot be responsible for it.  Bottled water for drinking will also be available on the stand.  Please bring your lunch.

Do I have to provide fabric and thread for the event?

Fabric, yes please.  Maybe you can get sponsorship from your local patchwork shop. Thread, no.   Wonderfil threads are sponsoring us by
providing the threads that you need to sew your quilt. Wadding will also be supplied by one of our sponsors - The Warm Company.

Can we have more than 4 members in our team?

Yes, we understand that some people are interested but would also like to attend workshops and lectures.  You can have up to 6 members to      be able to cover for them while they are away.  Only 4 members of each team will be allowed on the stand at any one time.

Do I have to spend the whole day on the Game of Quilts stand?

Not necessarily.  Depending on the stage of the quilt and if you have a rota it may be possible for a member to slip away for a while as long as

the stand is manned at all times and the progress of the quilt is not affected.

Will I have to buy a pass to the Festival of Quilts?

No, each member of the team will be given a free pass for the day they are taking part in Game of Quilts.

Do we have to pay to join in Game of Quilts?

   No, it is free.

Does the team get to take the quilt home?

No, all the quilts will be given to children in Birmingham Children's Hospita at the end of the show.

Are we given a pattern for the quilt?

No, you are free to design your own quilt to reflect the talent and skills of your team.  There is one proviso: each day the teams will be given a

simple block in the design of your quilt top.  This is to show visitors to the event how different choices in colours, fabrics and
combinations of blocks can result in totally different looking quilts.

When will we know about the block?

As soon as your team accepts the offer of a place in the event, you will be told what the block is.

How do we register our team?

There is an application form here.  Fill it in and return it to either Jan Allston or Hilary Gooding

When is the deadline for registering our team?

You must send in the application form by1st July. (possible late entries accepted too!)
